Federal Education Minister recognises Aga Khan Education Services for providing quality education in remote areas of northern Pakistan
Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Education, Mr. Shafqat Mehmood praised the Aga Khan Education Services (AKES) for providing quality education to students in some of the remotest parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, the country’s northern-most mountainous areas.
During his recent tour of the Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Karimabad, Hunza, Mr. Mahmood observed classrooms, visited the library and sports ground, and interacted with the students and teachers, taking a keen interest in understanding the educational challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic. He was accompanied by Azam Khan, Gilgit-Baltistan’s Education Minister.
On arrival at the school, the guests were welcomed by the CEO of AKES Pakistan, Mr. Imtiaz Momin, the General Manager for Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, Brigadier (retired) Khush Muhammad Khan and the Director of the Aga Khan University Examination Board, Mr. Shehzad Jeeva, along with the school’s Principal, Ms. Zahra Alidad, students and staff.
The Ministers also visited the Aga Khan University Examination Board’s centre at the school and expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made. Mr. Imtiaz Momin informed guests about the history, scope and the future of AKES Pakistan, whilst Ms. Zahra Alidad shared information on the school’s role in promoting women’s education in the region and the success of its alumni who are excelling across the globe.
Mr. Mehmood greatly appreciated the role of AKES Pakistan, in providing quality education to 50,000 children across Pakistan. He particularly lauded the school on its high academic standards, educational facilities and the learning and confidence of its students.
Established in 1986, the school is a premier institution of education for girls from grades 8-12. Over its 35 year history, the school has been imparting quality education and contributing to the development of the region and the country. The school’s alumni have demonstrated their success in all fields of human endeavors, including medicine, engineering, agriculture, education, social work and the arts, working across the world.
