June 30th, 2017, marked the National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) Conference and Awards Ceremony in Manchester, England. AKELC teacher Fazilat Notta represented herself and AKELC at the event.
Ms.Fazilat and AKELC had been shortlisted from hundreds of nurseries for two key awards. Ms. Fazilat was runner up for the "Best Practitioner of the Year" award, while Aga Khan Early Learning Centre was runner up for the "Best International Nursery Award."
AKELC was highly commended for this achievement. Kelli Allen, Head of Nursery and Preschool, commented on the honour: "Considering there were hundreds of nurseries who were considered for these awards, we are very honoured to have even been shortlisted and recognised. We will continue to work towards providing an exemplary high quality programme in the field of Early Childhood Education."
Awards were voted on by parents as well as a committee in the UK. One parent said: "The Aga Khan Early Childhood Centre goes above and beyond in every aspect! The teachers, staff and facility are all great!" Another parent, Ushma said: "From the most beautiful premise, to the most encouraging environment, AKELC helped our child thrive and find her own space and this has made us happy confident parents."
