The heartfelt graduation ceremony, which was held at Kampala Serena Hotel, was attended by proud parents, guardians, faculty and distinguished guests – including government officials, representatives of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) and members of the Board of Directors for the Aga Khan Education Service, Uganda. It was also live streamed to extended family members, friends, the wider school community and alumni of the Aga Khan Schools (AKS), reaching nearly 1360 viewers across the country and internationally.

In his welcome remarks, Special Advisor for the Aga Khan Education Service, Uganda Mr Zuloby Mamadfozilov, reflected on the exceptional character shown by the Class of 2026, noting that their graduation is a testament to years of unwavering focus, strength, and hard work.

"Graduating from high school signifies the peak of a rigorous multi-year journey,” Mr Mamadfozilov said. “However, your persistence, strength and unwavering focus have brought you to this significant landmark. This is a momentous achievement, and you should be immensely proud of the character you have shown.

This year’s keynote address was virtually delivered by Mr David Agnew, President of Seneca Polytechnic, who will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding with AKS to expand higher education opportunities and strengthen global pathways for students across AKS.

“Now, Seneca Polytechnic is proud of its long relationship with the Ismaili community in Canada and around the world, working with the Aga Khan Development Network in Central Asia and Egypt and now creating a relationship with the Aga Khan Schools network in Africa and elsewhere in the world,” noted Mr Agnew during his encouraging speech. “Graduates, please take a moment to reflect on the good fortune you have had to be part of a community that is deeply, deeply dedicated to the building of a better, more inclusive world, and you are living examples of that.”

Dr Rahim Somani, General Manager of AKS, also delivered a virtual address for the ceremony. He reflected on the significance of celebrating the IB DP graduations across the AKS network this year.

“When I look at our graduates, one word comes to mind: hope,” he said. “These young people leave our schools not only with knowledge and skills, but with resilience, compassion and strength of character. They represent a generation that will help build more pluralistic, just, and sustainable societies while improving the quality of life of the communities they will go on to serve.”

Members of the Class of 2026 have received admissions offers from universities around the world, including the University of Liverpool, the University of Toronto, the University of Notre Dame and more. Additionally, they have collectively secured over $4.1 million in scholarships.

“This Diploma represents more than an academic accomplishment: it represents our commitment to becoming people who make a difference; people who ask not just 'What can I achieve?' but 'How can I serve it?'; not just 'What do I know?' but 'What can I contribute?’,” said Rae Ssuubi Mwiima, the class speaker at the graduation ceremony.

Beyond the classroom, the school’s holistic environment continues to cultivate socially responsible, well-rounded leaders who excel on both national and creative stages. This can be seen with one of the graduates being a finalist at the school’s inaugural TEDx Youth event and the senior boys' team dominating the International Schools Sports Association of Kampala Basketball League, receiving several medals and the overall trophy.

As these graduates transition from the Aga Khan High School, Kampala to the next chapter of their lives, the school remains dedicated to its mission of providing students with high-quality education that empowers them to become contributing, ethical global citizens.
