06 October 2022

From 29 September to 1 October, 30 school leaders across the Aga Khan Education Service (AKES), Kenya participated in the Leadership Development Programme organised by the Aga Khan University (AKU) Graduate School of Media and Communications.

Through group activities, individual assessments, take-home tasks and more, the participants learned about effective leadership skills, how to operate strategically and how to manage themselves through emotional intelligence. The aim of the programme was to not only strengthen their leadership and management skills but also to recognise new practices for evolving workplaces.

“The facilitators are really engaging,” said Headteacher of the Aga Khan High School, Nairobi Moses Ngige who was a participant in the programme. “The two sessions that have really stood out to me were about emotional intelligence and adaptive leadership. The latter has provided me with knowledge on different leadership skills and how I can adjust the way I lead so I can effectively manage people.”

This programme by AKU will also be offered to staff at AKES, Uganda and AKES, Tanzania in 2023.
