Samina Chagani, an alumna from the Aga Khan Education Service, Pakistan, received the third highest civil honour in Pakistan, the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, presented by the State of Pakistan for service to the country.

Samina was recognised for her work as part of the Financial Monitoring Unit of the Government of Pakistan. As a member of the core team, Samina had the opportunity to represent Pakistan at various international forums. She assisted in reviewing and updating more than 20 federal and provincial legislations; the development of regulations; and the implementation of directives on a wide range of activities, such as international cooperation and mutual legal assistance, efforts that resulted in Pakistan’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force’s grey list.

The alumna was a hardworking and passionate student who completed her studies at the Aga Khan School, Garden and continued into Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Karachi. Later, she won an Aga Khan Scholarship to pursue a Master of Business Administration in finance at the prestigious Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology.

“A big thank you to the management, teachers, organisation and donors of the Aga Khan Education Service, Pakistan, who ensured we receive quality education beginning from school right up to college and are able to contribute to a better society and improved standard of living,” Samina said.
