From recitations to recognition: Aga Khan Education Service, Pakistan celebrates Parents' Day with pride and partnership

In a heartening display of unity, talent and collaboration, the Aga Khan Education Service (AKES), Pakistan recently hosted Parents' Day events across some of its schools, providing a platform for parents to witness and appreciate the remarkable progress and talents of their children. The events were held in various regions with notable celebrations in Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan.

At the Aga Khan School, Zhupo, the Aga Khan School, Khurzg and the Aga Khan School, Power, Parents' Day proved to be a resounding success. The support from parents and the local community was overwhelming, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm as students showcased their talents. The events featured captivating performances in oration, poetry, dance and various other skills. These celebrations highlighted the crucial role parents play in shaping the lives of the younger generation and served as a testament to the unity and partnership between the schools, parents and the community. 

The Aga Khan School, Royee saw the presence of esteemed guests, including Senior Manager of School Development Mr Zulfiqar Ali Shah and the President of the Local Council in Parabeg Mr Muhai ud Din. The day featured a rich programme, including recitations from the Qur’an, followed by students reading and performing Hamd and Naats (praises to God and Prophet Muhammed, respectively), speeches, dialogues, and dramatic skits.  

"The dedication of the Aga Khan Education Services in rural Northern Pakistan is commendable,” Mr Zulfiqar said. “Parents' Day showcased the profound impact of education on these young minds. It's a privilege to witness the transformative journey the school is facilitating." 

Additionally, Mr Zulfiqar passionately highlighted AKES, Pakistan's contributions to education in rural Northern Pakistan, emphasising the importance of girls' education in regions like Garamchashma.  

Major Mr Zeeshan Basir, the chief guest of the event, explored the school facilities and stressed the vital role parents play in guiding their children during their teenage years. 

"Education is a transformative journey, and the Aga Khan Education Service, Pakistan exemplifies this journey beautifully,” Major Basir said. “Parents' Day is a celebration of the collaborative effort between parents and educators, shaping a promising future for these students." 

Parents' Day celebrations were also observed at the Aga Khan School, Khuzh and Aga Khan School, Broke. The day commenced with a Tilawat, or recitation of verses from the Qur'an, and featured a variety of performances by students including songs, speeches, dialogues and dramatic skits. Parents had the opportunity to interact with teachers and school leaders, gaining insight into their children's achievements over the academic year.  

"Parents' Day isn't just about celebrating achievements; it's a testament to the partnership between parents, schools and the community,” a parent said. “AKES, Pakistan provides an environment where our children thrive, and we are proud to be part of this journey."  

In Gilgit-Baltistan, the Diamond Jubilee High School, Altit and the Diamond Jubilee Middle School, Shishkat marked Parents' Day with a range of activities such as Tilawat and Naat recitations, welcome songs, tableaus, quizzes and presentations of students' work. Exceptional students were recognised and awarded prizes for their achievements. The parents actively engaged with teachers and school leaders, strengthening the bonds between the school and the community. 

These Parents' Day events across the Aga Khan Education Service, Pakistan were not just celebrations of academic accomplishments but also powerful reminders of the transformative impact of education. They highlighted the growth of students, the commitment to the future and the importance of the partnership between parents, schools and the wider community. These occasions served as a testament to the collaborative efforts that contribute to the holistic development of the younger generation.
