Meet our alumni: Mr Azeem Rajwani

05 August 2024

Mr Azeem Rajwani is a Class of 1989 alumnus from the Diamond Jubilee High School, Mumbai. Now, the operations manager at the school, Mr Azeem reflects on his journey from student to staff.

Hailing from a humble background and despite facing numerous financial challenges, I had the privilege of studying at the school.

The classrooms were always filled with an encouraging atmosphere, fostering both learning and camaraderie. Friendships made during those years remain cherished memories, as we supported each other through the highs and lows of school life. Even after 35 years, we remain in touch with each other.

I am grateful to the teachers who supported me throughout my school years. There were several occasions when I contemplated discontinuing my studies, but my teachers consistently motivated and encouraged me to persevere. The honour of being elected as the vice captain of the school’s Green House served as a poignant example of how the teachers motivated me to pursue my education relentlessly.  Finally, I successfully completed my Secondary School Certificate (SSC) from the school in 1989.

Furthering my education, I graduated and pursued a Master of Business Administration in human resources to enhance my skills. In 2002, I began working for the Aga Khan Education Service (AKES), India as an administration executive and left my role in 2006. After many years, I reconnected with AKES, India in 2021, this time as the operations manager at the very school where I once studied.

My knowledge of facilities management was limited when I rejoined the school, yet the school placed their trust in me and provided the necessary guidance to develop my capabilities. For example, AKES, India and my alma mater offered me the opportunity to pursue a qualification in the Qualified Security Management course from Highfield, an accomplishment that led to an invitation to Dubai for felicitation. Today, I oversee the maintenance of the entire school premises and property.

At the Diamond Jubilee High School, Mumbai, everyone is treated with respect and every opinion is valued, creating an excellent working environment. Transitioning from a student to an employee has been an incredible journey.
