The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi’s Class of 2022 achieves best IB results
The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi’s Class of 2022 received the Academy’s best results in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP).
The cohort of 41 students achieved an average score of 33.3, which is well above this year’s global IB average of 32. In addition, 25% of the students scored an impressive 38 points and above out of a possible 45, with one student, Iqra Devlani, scoring an outstanding 44.
“The IB experience gave me lifelong skills which contributed to my excelling in school and [prepared me] to tackle the outside world,” said Iqra, who was awarded a full scholarship to Huron University College in London, Ontario, Canada. Iqra will pursue Huron’s honours specialisation in psychology and was accepted to the university’s Scholar’s Electives, a limited enrolment programme open to students with an average of 90% or higher.
The Academy’s IB programme provides an opportunity for our students to attend renowned post-secondary institutions locally and across the globe, such as the University of Toronto, Imperial College London, the University of Minnesota the University of Nairobi and many more. In addition, eight graduates were awarded scholarships to institutions of higher learning, including Huron University College, the University of Nottingham and Imperial College London.
Outgoing Head Teacher Christian Schmelz praised the graduates and their teachers for showing remarkable strength and determination during the pandemic.
“Over the last two years, the Class of 2022 has demonstrated resilience and adaptability,” Christian said. “The school found innovative ways to support students through difficult and unprecedented times. We are immensely proud of the cohorts’ overall results, which are the best results the Academy has ever achieved.”
