Aga Khan Mzizima Secondary School, Dar es Salaam awards top-performing NECTA students
The Aga Khan Mzizima Secondary School (AKMSS), Dar es Salaam has awarded 11 scholarships to standout Form 1 students studying under the National Examination Council Tanzania (NECTA) system for the 2024 academic year.
The scholarships aim to provide talented students from varying socio-economic backgrounds with access to quality education. Out of the 11 recipients, six recipients will receive fifty percent off their school fees, and the remaining five will receive 20 percent off their school fees.
“We made the decision to invest more effort in the studies of inspiring students,” said the CEO of the Aga Khan Education Service (AKES), Tanzania Dr Shelina Walli. “Our selection process was based on their consistent excellence in primary assessments, Form 1 school entrance assessments and their active participation in extra-curricular activities. To continue receiving the scholarship for the next level, students are expected to maintain their exceptional performance.”
Rehanna Abdallah is one of the recipients of the scholarship. When she found out that she received the scholarship from AKMSS, Dar es Salaam she was thrilled.
“My future depends on quality education,” she said. “I am committed to utilising this opportunity effectively. I extend my gratitude to the school administration and aim to be a commendable ambassador for my school.”
Parents of some scholarship recipients praised the school for their decision and expressed gratitude for this opportunity for their children.
“I have no words to explain how much I appreciate this,” said parent Salim Said Lihanga. “I promise that my child will make the school proud.”
AKMSS, Dar es Salaam aspires to establish this initiative as a longstanding tradition, ensuring ongoing support for students in the years to come.
“In addition to motivating students, the scholarships aim to ease the financial burden on parents,” Head Teacher Happiness Constantine said. “The maintenance of discipline is a key criterion for continuing the scholarship; this is likely to improve the school discipline in return.”
