Aga Khan Mzizima Secondary School, Dar es Salaam celebrates its IB DP Class of 2024
On 23 May 2024, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) Class of 2024 at the Aga Khan Mzizima Secondary School, Dar es Salaam graduated in a joyous ceremony.
The event was attended by the senior management team, faculty, staff, parents and the rest of the school community. The school was honoured to have Country Director of the Aga Khan Foundation Tanzania Ms Atteya Sumar as the event’s guest speaker.
The ceremony opened with remarks from Head of School Dr Arun Mukherjee, who spoke of the graduating class’s perseverance and how impressed he is with the students’ growth over the years.
"The Class of 2024 has been extraordinary, not only in their academic achievements but also in their commitment to making a positive impact on the world,” he said. “They have set a high standard for future graduates.”
This year’s graduates have been recognised for their academic excellence by being awarded over half a million dollars in scholarships. This impressive total reflects the hard work, dedication and intellectual prowess of the students. Additionally, they received admission offers to prestigious institutions around the world, including the University of Northern British Columbia, the University of Nottingham, the University of Łódź and Huron University.
In her speech, Ms Atteya encouraged the graduates to be global citizens by reminding them to continuously treat people with kindness, care and love.
“You continuously have the power to offer relief to someone else,” she said. “There is nothing more rewarding in this world than helping other people, no matter how difficult it may be. Do not forget that you are a citizen of this world and there are so many things you can do to lift the human spirit. Ensure you fulfil the role.”
The Class of 2024 were also praised for the numerous sustainability projects they undertook throughout the year, including the creation of a micro-forest and soil factory, paper recycling projects, and engaging in peer mentorship. Their dedication to these initiatives has had a lasting impact on the school and the local community, showcasing their commitment to saving the planet.
Lastly, the graduation ceremony could not be complete without performances by the inspiring school choir and a brilliant tabla performance by DP1 student Pranav Gundu.
The Aga Khan Mzizima Secondary School, Dar es Salaam commends the Class of 2024’s hard work, perseverance and accomplishments, and wishes them the very best in all their future endeavours.
