The Diamond Jubilee High School for Girls, Mumbai

Meet our alumni: Ms Mumtaz Khan

04 March 2024

Ms Mumtaz Khan graduated from the Diamond Jubilee High School for Girls, Mumbai in 1994. Now, as a pre-primary teacher at the school, she reflects on her journey from student to educator.

I enrolled as a Grade 6 student at the school in 1989. I engaged in numerous extracurricular activities, especially sports, and was later elected as the sports captain. Throughout my student years, I always desired to become a teacher. My inspiration to become one stems from my grandfather and my parents, all of whom were educators. So, I pursued a diploma in early childhood care and education. Then my professional journey began in June 1998 as a teaching assistant at my alma mater in the pre-primary section.

Choosing this career path allowed me to enrich the lives of children and enhance their learning through diverse teaching methods. While hesitant about using technology in my early teaching days, I eventually embraced it, becoming proficient with technological tools. I now develop innovative teaching and learning materials and create hands-on experiences for my students.

Recognised as the dynamic force within the pre-primary team, I constantly seek opportunities to learn and apply new strategies in my classroom. My aim is not only to build strong relationships with my students but also with their parents.

My 25-year journey as a teacher at the Diamond Jubilee High School for Girls, Mumbai has been incredibly enriching and I consider it an honour to be a part of the Aga Khan Education Service, India family.
