Platinum Jubilee High School, Warangal celebrates 70 years of academic excellence
The Platinum Jubilee High School, Warangal marked its 70th anniversary with a spectacular two-day celebration on 30 November and 1 December 2024, themed "Celebrating 70 Years of Academic Excellence".
Established in 1953 with just 30 students, the school has grown significantly and currently serves over 1,360 students, offering state-of-the-art infrastructure and advanced technology. The celebrations were a blend of nostalgia, pride and gratitude, as alumni, students and staff gathered to honour the school's rich legacy and transformative journey.
The first day of the anniversary celebrations was a heartwarming reunion as alumni spanning decades returned to their alma mater. Their faces lit with joy as they shared heartfelt stories about how the school shaped their lives. Among its illustrious alumni are the Mayor of Warangal, a renowned film director and Telangana’s IT Minister – living testaments to the school’s lasting impact.
The event was attended by special guests, including the Aga Khan Education Service, India Chairman Mr Shiraz Vastani; CEO of the Aga Khan Education Service, India Mr Farhad Merchant; Head of Academics Dr Trisha Sen; Regional Head, Gujarat Dr Iqbal Sama; and Alumni Relations Coordinator for the Aga Khan Schools Ms Tara Menon. Speeches by Mr Merchant, Mr Vastani and Ms Menon highlighted the school’s remarkable journey and its alumni’s pivotal role in fostering growth and elevating the school’s legacy. Mr Vastani, remarked that, “Gratitude, empathy and humility are the foundation for a brighter future.”
A special highlight of the evening was a dazzling dance performance by the Class of 1988, which added a nostalgic touch to the evening. Alumni also toured the school campus, guided by students, revisiting cherished memories and marvelling at the school’s transformation over the decades.
“Platinum Jubilee High School, Warangal laid the foundation for my journey, from becoming a doctor to reaching a position where I evaluate medical departments and professionals in the United States of America,” said alumnus Dr Mohammed Jameel, Class of 1985, who is an accomplished medical professional. “Whatever I am today is because of this school.”
The second day featured cultural performances, tracing the school’s incredible journey from 1953 to 2024. The event opened with a Guard of Honour, a ceremonial lamp lighting and a high-energy welcome dance. A kaleidoscope of performances also brought the school’s story to life. From the spirited "Back to the Beginning” to the innovative “Robotic Dance”, each act paid homage to a different chapter of the school’s growth. The “COVID Era Dance” struck an emotional chord, capturing the resilience of students and staff during challenging times, while the “Swacchta Dance” celebrated values of environmental sustainability and social responsibility.
The highlight of the evening was the Shishu Pahel Paddhati® act, where Grade 1 and 2 students beautifully captured the essence of early childhood education through expressive performances and vibrant storytelling. The presentation showcased the foundational practices embraced by the school to nurture curiosity, creativity and growth.
Chief Guest Ms Gundu Sudha Rani, Class of 1980, Mayor of Warangal and a proud alumna, delivered a heartfelt address. She expressed gratitude to the school for its impact on her life, stating “Platinum Jubilee High School, Warangal shaped me into the person I am today.”
The event concluded with the “Achievement Dance” to the “Lehrado” song – a fitting tribute to the school’s remarkable journey, commitment to nurturing future leaders and dedication to excellence and innovation.
