Aga Khan High School, Kampala hosts professional development workshop for educators
On 22 and 23 March, the Aga Khan High School (AKHS), Kampala hosted an education conference for International Baccalaureate (IB) and International Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) teachers and school leaders.
Organised by Kognity, an online teaching and learning platform, AKHS, Kampala welcomed educators from East Africa and beyond to the two-day workshop focusing on professional development. Through several informative workshops led by experts, the participants explored the theme of the conference, “Bringing technology and pedagogy, together”. They learnt about innovative approaches to delivering curriculum and the unique ways in which teachers can engage students. After the sessions, they had the opportunity to network with each other and establish connections to support their teaching journeys.
“The engaging and informative training sessions with facilitators and attendees from different parts of the world, with vast expertise, perspectives and unique experiences was refreshing and fulfilling,” said Sarah Ssetenda, the deputy head teacher at AKHS, Kampala. “Topics such as ‘Using science of learning to teach more effectively’, ‘Unlocking students’ potential’ and resources for the workshop were well selected and fit-for-purpose in today’s world. To reinforce best practices and ensure that approaches to learning are affected, sessions focused on ways a teacher can provide a rich learning environment.”
Overall, the conference helped IB and IGCSE educators bridge the gap between pedagogy, theology and technology to help produce well-rounded learners.
“These opportunities provide the means to build community, exchange best practices and learn from each other,” said Marcus Tirkel, accounts manager at Kognity, in a report by
NTV Uganda. “This is really what the future of education is all about.”
