Along with upgrading the school’s spaces, the goal of the renovation project was to provide more external play areas, ensure the thermal comfort of the classrooms and upgrade the life safety, fire and CCTV systems. In line with the Aga Khan Development Network’s aim to become net zero carbon by 2030, the renovation project will also reduce the school’s energy and water consumption by incorporating solar and energy-efficient heating solutions and reduced water flow devices, respectively.

Parents of the school have noted and appreciated these upgrades and more.

“The installation of drinking water fountains for students, fire and smoke-proof doors, and the upgraded sanitary hygiene water systems are notable and significant examples [of the renovations the school has undergone],” said Abdramanova N., a parent of a Grade 7 student at the school. “The abundance of greenery and flowers surrounding the school is also amazing. Additionally, we appreciate the security system implemented in the school, which provides us with a sense of safety and trust in the school.”

The school management team also considered several structural changes during this time with the addition of new primary grade levels at the end of 2023. The classrooms have been designed to be spacious and well-lit, with flooring that is resistant to allergies, and an air ventilation and heating system that ensures comfort during the winter season. The renovation project also uses imported materials that adhere to the buildings' criteria set by the Aga Khan Schools Facilities Department. Lastly, equipped with information and communication technologies, including overhead projectors, TVs, high-speed internet and more, the school continually offers students opportunities to succeed and develop in a globally competitive world.

Saira Shaimkulova, a chemistry teacher at the school, also expressed her appreciation for the renovation of the school.

“Following the renovation, the chemistry room has undergone a significant transformation; it has expanded in size, a designated area for chemical substances has been included, furniture relevant to the subject has been procured and more,” Saira said. “The children take pleasure in learning the subject and actively attend classes. Interest in scientific disciplines has also increased since those students intending to pursue science-related degrees are studying better, which is resulting in significant improvements in their academic performance.”

The completion of the Aga Khan School, Osh’s building renovation project ensures an even safer, more comfortable, modern, hygienic and sanitised school for its students and staff. This initiative supports the school in providing a high-quality and comprehensive primary and secondary education to over 500 students, catering to the population of Osh city and its surrounding areas.
