President of Pakistan, Mr. Arif Alvi, visits Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Hunza
On October 26, 2018, the President of Pakistan, Mr. Arif Alvi visited the Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Hunza (AKHSS) as part of a three-day programme to Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral to visit the various agencies of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).
Students presented the President with shawls and caps traditional to northern Pakistan. Accompanied by his family, President Alvi, spent nearly an hour at the school and spoke with students and faculty. The school principal, Ms. Zahar Ali Dad, briefed the President about the Aga Khan School's impact across Pakistan achieved by providing quality education to students in the most remote regions of the country, a large percent of whom are female.
During the visit, the President was amazed to know that all students who apply to AKHSS are offered admissions solely on merit. He continued to meet with the faculty and staff members and appreciated their efforts towards the school’s development. President Alvi also acknowledged the achievements of the students and alumni who are serving at top organisations within and outside Pakistan. In his address to the students, the President said, “work extremely hard for the development of the community and the country.”
Upon departure, the President acknowledged AKDN’s services especially working for the development of the communities in remote areas. For AKHSS, the President admired the school’s effort in maintaining a high standard of education, and encouraged them to work even harder for further improvement.
Aga Khan Education Service, Pakistan (AKES,P) currently operates 160 schools and four hostels that provide quality pre-school, primary, secondary, and higher secondary education services to students all across Pakistan, These schools have an enrolment of nearly 40,000 students and employ over 1,800 teachers. The majority of students impacted by AKES in Pakistan are from the rural areas.
