Emerging after having been part of the Soviet Union, Tajikistan declared its sovereignty in 1990 and independence followed in 1991. In November 1994, a referendum was held on the adoption of a new Constitution and the election of a new president. The Constitution proclaims the establishment of a democratic, legal, secular and unitary State.

At the outset of Constitution Day in Tajikistan, there is an official flag-raising ceremony. People get the day off work, and the government organizes numerous celebratory events.

This year Aga Khan Lycée in Khorog took the initiative to invite the Head of the Region Mr. Yodgor Faizov and the Mayor of Khorog town Mr. Kishvar Shamir, to share in their Constitution Day celebrations at the newly retrofitted school.

As for most holidays in Tajikistan, this colorful holiday was accompanied by beautiful traditional dance and song performances arranged by the school students and teachers. This day has become an occasion for AKL to acknowledge the joint efforts and lasting collaboration with the local government, as part of its commitment to achieving the highest quality education for children while ensuring inclusivity and equity, and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.

“Today we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan. State Constitution is the best way to educate the people of Tajikistan in the spirit of the values of the nation. Following the President’s guidance on provision of the suitable environment and opportunities for the students in learning foreign languages including Russian and English, AKL is one of the GBAO schools successfully implementing this commitment in the Region. The development of our children on the basis of early and further quality education, while having not only modern and comfortable conditions in the school, but also a suitable methodology and professional learning process will contribute to the development of our country as a whole”- expressed Yodgor Faizov, the Head of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region of Tajik Republic.
