The aim of the celebration was to instil a love for learning while imparting essential skills. During the week, a series of activities were thoughtfully arranged to facilitate meaningful engagement for the children. The event included vibrant activities like puppet shows, ‘Daily Read Aloud Time’, ‘Match the Rhyming Word’ and ‘Find the Sight Words’. These activities enhanced listening skills, vocabulary and nurtured creativity. They also sparked an enthusiasm for language learning as the students learnt how to construct sentences and enhance comprehension. Intermediate grades delved into word formation, rhyming words and creative writing with vocabulary-building games, dialogue writing and storytelling.

"The event was enjoyable,” said Grade 4 student Noorain Patel. “Participating in activities related to reading and writing not only engaged our minds but also helped in developing our skills."

The highlight of the week was the special guest – 17-year-old author, public speaker and change maker, Ms Manasi Patil. Invited to share her journey and insights to inspire the young minds, Ms Manasi supported the students by helping them develop their writing skills. She emphasised the significance of literacy and its role in establishing a sustainable and harmonious society. Her words gave students motivation to create change.

"Ms Manasi Patil's words ignited a fire within the students,” said Yashfeen Alangar, a Grade 9 student.  “Her confidence, expressions and infectious smile all conveyed that she is the driving force of change."

The Diamond Jubilee High School for Girls, Mumbai, and the Aga Khan Education Service, India, actively emphasise the importance of literacy and education in building a more sustainable society. The school empowers its students with the skills and confidence to communicate effectively and think critically. This not only shapes bright futures but also contributes to the creation of a sustainable and peaceful society.
