AKES, India organises training for pre-primary and primary section heads
The Aga Khan Education Service (AKES), India held a training programme, titled “RISE”, for its pre-primary and primary section heads from 19-23 June.
The training featured classroom observations, demonstrations, hands-on sessions focused on curricular processes and much more. It also emphasised the importance of collaboration and the sharing of best practices to enhance teaching and learning while fostering leadership skills.
Various topics were discussed during the training, such as Jolly Phonics, establishing daily routines, setting up learning centres and implementing effective “Plan-Do-Review" strategies. Additionally, the participants gained valuable insights into assessment tools, such as the Global Guidelines Assessment (GGA), a preschool programme assessment, Child Observation Record (COR), a developmental tool for child observation, and Ages & Stages Questionnaires (ASQ), a developmental screening tool.
For the primary section heads, the training explored phonics instruction, lesson plan reviews, Bloom's Taxonomy, Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences, note-taking and providing effective feedback after classroom observation, educational technology, or EdTech, integration, experiential learning through hands-on activities, assessments, and the setting up of learning centres.
“The RISE leadership training equipped me with lesson plan criteria, assessment tools, observation tools and more,” said Ms Mamta Murjani, a primary section head who was a participant in the training. “The training gave us the compass that recalibrated our professional journey. It was indeed an experience learning from leaders with different ideas and mindsets. It empowered me with insights to navigate challenges with resilience. The training did not just elevate my career as a section head but moulded me with positive change.”
