The Aga Khan Schools in Gilgit-Baltistan

107 out of 160 AKES,P schools are in the mountainous region of Gilgit-Baltistan. Out of these, 47 are primary schools, 29 middle schools, 27 high schools, and 4 higher secondary schools.

More than 23,000 students study in these schools, taught by a 1,000 teachers. The first of these schools were established in 1946, more than 70 years ago, greatly improving the provision of education in the region, particularly for women.
